I bought this to connect our old HP Deskjet to an Apple laptop, and fortunately that works fine. But I normally use the printer with a Dell PC running Vista, and although the Dell PC recognizes the printer through this cable, it CANNOT execute a print job - I just get error messages. So I have to reconnect the old serial print cable. Yes, I did get the ability to print via USB from the laptop (at a reasonable price), but have the inconvenience of having to constantly switch printer cables, depending on which computer I am using. I would not recommend using this cable with an older pc, at least not running Vista.
